Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford was a guest on Joe Bonamassa’s podcast and expressed doubt that the band will ever tour again. The band is currently scheduled for a European tour in 2022, but Whitford calls it “a pipe dream.”
"The European tour, they tried to plan one last year, and they're talking about next year," he said. "It's a pipe dream right now. Nothing's gonna happen for a long time. Sometimes I'm not sure what my partners are thinking when they think that's gonna happen."
The band celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020 and was supposed to play a hometown show at Fenway Park in Boston to mark the occasion. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Aerosmith to postpone the show. While it’s currently scheduled for September 2022, Whitford thinks the age of the band’s members will cause issues to arise.
"I mean, I have my doubts about Aerosmith ever really performing again at this stage," he said, "because age is becoming a real factor. And it is what it is."
Whitford’s comments echo what drummer Joey Kramer said in a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone. “We’re not 25-year-olds anymore – we can’t play as many shows as we used to,” he said.
“Steven [Tyler] can’t sing two nights in a row or three to four nights a week – it’s physically impossible. So it becomes a question of going out [on tour] less than we used to, or not doing it at all.”
