Yes, she’s a rapper, entrepreneur, your fave celebrity to follow on social media and overall multifaceted queen. But more than that, just like us, Cardi B is human, and with that comes insecurities… Yes, even Cardi sometimes just ain’t feelin’ it.
While catching up with Cosmopolitan, Cardi revealed how the “Wild Side” collab with Normani came about. And how her “really sweet” costar helped her feel sexy on set, when she was feeling anything but.

Describing Normani as “really sweet,” and having always been “a sweet girl,” Cardi shared that one of the reasons the two linked up was do to her stylist. “My stylist worked with her and he was always saying how she's such a nice person. My stylist was like, ‘Would you do a song with Normani? She would love to do a song with you,’ and I said yeah. I was really freaking out because the song was supposed to come out in June, and I had just told the world that I'm pregnant but the song got moved a little bit to July.”
As she kept talking Cardi continued to rave, “Normani is just such a great person and I cannot wait for the world to see more of her. She's one of those nice girls...I don't think she got any mean girl-ness in her body. She's delicate and is one of those people you want the success for, you know?”
While trying to settle on a look for the music video, just like her baby bump Cardi’s frustrations were growing. “My belly was in the way of every outfit I wore so I felt like the best way that I could hide and conceal it was with hair and being naked.”
While the song unquestionably oozes sex appeal, Cardi admitted, “I didn't really want to do much nudity because I've done so much nudeness in my videos before.” Valid point, but as she went on to explain, baring it all “was the only thing that made sense around that time because no clothes were fitting me nicely. I was around five and a half months pregnant, going into six months pregnant, so I couldn't wear a bustier or waist trainer.”
At first Cardi was feeling out of place, “trying to be sexy and rapping about d***s and c***s.” Adding, “my body wasn't feeling sexy and it was the first time in public where I was butt naked with a big a** belly." But thanks to Normani’s hype man energy Cardi’s insecurities started to fade as confidence took the drivers seat.
In the end, despite its personal challenges for Cardi, the decision to go nude turned into a real work of art. “We just looked so beautiful,” Cardi noted. “Normani was so nice...she made sure that the set was very private 'cause nobody knew that I was pregnant, and she kept giving me advice on how to look more fierce. Normani's a natural dancer, so she was like, ‘Yeah, Cardi go like this, POW!’”
Okay, so not that we don’t value her feelings or anything, but like can we all agree that we find Cardi’s self doubt kind of surprising and slightly insane. Because let’s be real, it’s not even up for debate that Cardi looked incredibly fierce and very sexy. A literal femme glowing, baby bump growing goddess, and obviously it goes without saying Normani looked fire too.
Also, since we’re on the topic of Cardi B, her and Megan Thee Stallion are currently in WAP-iversary celebration mode for their collab that came out on August 7 one year ago.
"Wow I can’t believe wappity WAP turned one today. It don’t even feel like it. What a record! @theestallion we should do it again sometime," Cardi tweeted. To which Meg replied "Happy WAPIVERSARY. Thank you for having me,” and then rocked our world by adding, “ I think the people deserve another collab.”
Ummmm yes please! We do, we do, we really do! While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, we’re hoping just thought being out there will manifest it into reality.
