The hostility between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj is as much a secret as Drake's emotions. So when Halle Berry inadvertently dubbed Cardi as the “Queen of Hip Hop” during a promotional event for her new film Bruised, she kinda set off internet in a heated debate.
Thinking nothing of it, during Saturday’s event Berry explained, “I reached out to Cardi and we paired and we created, I think, a soundtrack and an album that is not only historic, but I think is a beautiful backdrop to these stories.” Thanking the rapper, for helping her curate a soundtrack full of female rappers, Berry called Cardi “my partner in crime,” and (of course the reason we’re all here) — “the Queen of Hop Hop.”
Well, um Nicki’s fans aka the “Barbz,” definitely weren’t here for the statement and weren’t shy to let it be known, including one famous “Barb” in particular — Winnie Harlow.
Which brings us to Sunday, where during MTV's 2021 Europe Music Awards... Winnie intentionally or not, entered the conversation while announcing the winner of the Best Hip Hop award which went Nicki, by prefacing her name with… "the one and only Queen of Hip Hop.” Which like we said, could be interpreted as a jab or possibly nothing… who knows, do with it what you will.
You already know, that’s exactly what Cardi did. Not having any of it, Cardi hopped on Twitter, as she often likes to do, to shut down the chatter with a quickness.
"I know how some of you girls like to tussle over this typa childish s***… but ntm on Halle Berry. Anyway her movie #BRUISED dropping THAT SHE DIRECTED HERSELF on Netflix on November 24th. The FIRST female rap movie soundtrack!! we produced together out this FRIDAY!"
