You can always count on Cardi B to speak her mind. In fact it’s just one of the many reasons why we all love her.
And as a frequent opinion Tweeter and IG Live sharer — Cardi’s latest contribution really had people feeling some type of way, resulting in her needing to clarify her intent. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, we’ll start at the beginning.
In the early hours of Monday, November 1, Cardi hopped on IG Live to air out her grievances about the over-saturation of slow-paced rap music. Expressing that in her personal opinion, tracks currently getting played in the clubs all sound the same. Which of course she had a solution for — telling her fans that what’s been missing in the clubs is her.
Addressing those watching, Cardi said, “Let’s have this conversation. I know what n****s is missing in the club.” When a fellow rider asked “what,” Cardi said, “Me! They missing me!” It was at that point that the she began to get some of her thoughts off her chest in regards to all the “slow s***” in Hip Hop right now.
“I feel like we keep hearing the same song over and over and over again. These rappers nowadays, all of them wanna die,” she continued. “They all wanna die. All these n****s need to stop doing lean and smoking weed. You know, this the thing about these rappers, right? They got money and they start buying too much motherf***ing weed, and too much lean and they make that slow s***.”
Before the live session ended, she reiterated, “The club need me. The strippers need me. The hoes need me. The motherf***in’ get money n****s need me. … I wanna shake my a**, n****! Am I lying?”
Well, after the internet did as it does — see below.
Cardi hopped on Twitter to clarify the intent behind her message, tweeting, “I just want a balance sorry if I worded things wrong. I just love music that drop hard and turn the club up.” Mentioning Meek Mill’s "Dreams and Nightmares" and Tee Grizzley’s "First Day Out" as songs that offer “a perfect balance of rap and turn up.”
Needless to say, whatever your thoughts on the matter might be, one thing we’re sure we can all agree on is that knowing how Cardi works, we’ll no doubt be getting at least one, if not more, bass-filled club bangers coming our way in the near future. And even if sad rap is your thing, let’s be real, a Cardi bop is always excitedly welcome.
