Carly admits she's thrilled that her single with Ashley is currently making its way to the number one spot in Country airplay, as it would mark a three-peat for the singer following her previous hits "Every Little Thing" in 2017, and 2019's "I Hope You're Happy Now" with Lee Brice. "Listen, I've only heard that twice," she says of reaching number 1... "I'd like to hear it for the third time, thank you very much!"
"Ask and you shall receive" was the basic formula for how the single came to be, Pearce explains. "She said yes... we got in the room and we just struck magic. It was just a really special day, and I'm just so proud that this has happened."
Carly also touched on the news of Country icon Naomi Judd's untimely passing on April 30, adding to the countless artists and fans who took to social media to tribute the star, and pay their respects -- remembering back to their first meeting at the 2022 CMT Awards in early April.
Carly was also honored to be given a chance to perform The Judds' touching single "Grandpa (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Old Days)" as a special surprise guest during the 2022 Country Music Hall Of Fame induction ceremony just a day after her passing. "It was really intense," Carly says of the performance, which was attended by Naomi's grieving daughters Wynonna and Ashley. "I'm so honored... I knew I was doing this a few months ago," she explains, "but I had no idea what was going to happen. [I] found out that the song Wynonna really wanted to hear was 'Grandpa,' so at the last minute we changed my song. It was really, really special... something that I think will be a moment that I'll never, ever forget and be one of the greatest things I've ever gotten to do."
"That may be THE most nervous I think I've ever been," Carly adds. "Just because I knew they were there, I knew that Wynonna wanted to hear this song; I understood... I guess actually I don't understand what it's like to lose your mother, and to lose your mother in such a tragic way, hours before this celebration. Hearing those girls speak, and just feeling the heaviness in the room was kind of hard to describe."
