When Carly Pearce released her third studio album 29: Written In Stone back in September 2021, she had absolutely no idea how it would be received. Now that we’re nearly six months since its release, the reception has exceeded her wildest expectations.

Pearce spoke with Audacy’s John & Tammy and touched on the leadup to the album. The material on the record was born out of numerous difficult events. From divorce, death, and other struggles, Pearce wanted to use her music as an outlet to speak about what was on her mind.”
“It’s really hard to put into words just to think about when I started writing 29, wondering if anybody would care, if my label was going to think I was insane to write this music,” she said. “Then to see it completely change my whole world and have this connection to fans that I’ve never had… This is my third album, but in a lot of ways it feels like my first.”
“Initially I was extremely fearful,” Pearce said of what the reaction might be. After the album was released, the reaction from her fans gave her an incredible feeling. “When I put this music out, I truly felt like fans were telling me, ‘you’re making my story feel like it’s ok,’” she said. “In return, they were doing the same thing for me.”

Pearce is up for four awards at the upcoming 2022 ACM Awards as she’s earned her rightful place as a role model and mentor to the younger generation.
What exactly is that feeling like? “It’s one of the greatest gifts and honors that I’ve been given truly in my life,” she says.
“I hope women will look at me now as an example of ‘speak your truth’ and don’t be afraid of it. I look to people like Dolly [Parton] and Loretta [Lynn] that were unapologetically themselves and write songs that maybe push the boundaries or maybe make people gasp, and that was what I channeled through this.”
