Charles Grodin, who starred in films such as “Midnight Run, “The Heartbreak Kid," and “Beethoven,” has died. He was 86.

Grodin’s son, Nicholas, confirmed the news of his father’s passing to the New York Times and disclosed it was due to bone marrow cancer.

Grodin received a Golden Globe nomination for his role in the 1972 romantic comedy "The Heartbreak Kid." Directed by Elaine May and written by Neil Simon, the film established Grodin's leading man status opposite Cybil Shepherd and Eddie Albert.

In 1978, he appeared with Warren Beatty in the fantasy comedy "Heaven Can Wait."

In the '80s, Grodin starred in films such as "Seems Like Old Times," "The Great Muppet Caper," "Ishtar," "The Incredible Shrinking Woman," and the box office hit "Midnight Run" with Robert De Niro.

During the '90s, Grodin ventured into family fare as the patriarch in the 1992 comedy "Beethoven" and its 1993 sequel "Beethoven's 2nd."

From 1995 to 1998, he hosted his self-titled talk show on CNBC and later became a political commentator on "60 Minutes II."

In recent years, Grodin appeared on "Law & Order: SVU," "Louie" and the ABC miniseries about Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernie Madoff entitled "Madoff."
