"I spent a lot of time trying to be other people," he told Today’s Willie Geist in a recent interview. "Like, I love Vince Gill. I tried so hard to be like Vince Gill and sound like Vince Gill. There’s lots of demo recordings of me, like, wishing I was Vince Gill."
In his own time, Stapleton says he came to realize, “I’m not any of those people,” and started to embrace his own sound and talents.
"Eventually, you — hopefully, through all those influences and also focusing on what it is that you do — you find out what that is. And then, you put that out there," he shared. "If that’s something special that people think is special — that’s great."
It’s clear what Stapleton has is special with not only his numerous CMA and ACM Awards, but also a whopping eight GRAMMYs.
Fans can rest assured there’s even more greatness to come as Stapleton readies to release his fifth studio album, Higher, on November 10, 2023. Pre-order is available now.
