LISTEN NOW: Russell Dickerson talks with Coop at CMA Fest 2023
While sipping some straight-up black coffee "to the dome," RD filled us in on his latest collaboration, "More Than Yesterday," with Two Friends. Explaining the way the track came about amid a hectic travel schedule after the duo reached out for his inclusion, Russell says he had to fly from Chattanooga to Los Angeles to do some filming and then dove right into the project with little to no sleep.
Russell was in Los Angeles to film his official acting debut in the season three finale of FOX's Call Me Kat. "You know, I use the term a lot," he admits, but the experience was "exhilarating," equating the feeling to that of being on stage in front of his fans.
“There was 100 people in this room, the extras, directors, cameras, lights, rigs, blah, blah, blah... When I would say my lines,” he says, “I could hear the directors laughing back there. After a take, they're like, ‘Dude, the directors were laughing back there. You're crushing it.’ I was like, ‘Really? I don't know.' I was like, 'please tell me if this sucks. I don't know and I want this to be amazing for you guys.’"
Russell and his wife Kailey are also expecting baby number two on the way. While he knows what to expect this time around, he admits “there's so many things that are running through my brain of like, ‘Oh yeah, we got to do that.' Cause our first baby... was all during COVID. So, every day we woke up, I was like, ‘Oh my God. Right. 200 more days. 199, you know, but now it's like two weeks go by. I'm like, ‘Oh God, we got like three and a half months before we have to have a baby.'”
Russell is taking his show on the road, and he's making it bigger and better by hitting up arenas later this year. "Bigger everything, you know what I mean? Bigger wheels... See what I did there, guys," he says. "This is actually the first tour we're stepping into those big venues... it's a little scary. But it's also like, 'Heck yeah, we are. We got this!'"
