Corey Taylor Already Planning Second Solo Album: 'I'm Tired of Being Miserable Making Music'

The Slipknot front man is still promoting his debut solo LP

Corey Taylor’s debut solo album CMFT is set to drop October 2, but during a recent interview with Finland’s Kaaos TV, the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman said he already has plans for a follow-up project.

“Next year, hopefully once things get back to normal — knock on wood — I'll finish up the Slipknot tour cycle, wrap that up, and then after that, probably go in and record my second solo album and then go out and tour on two albums instead of just one,” he said.

Corey announced his debut project last week releasing a pair of singles, Black Eyes Blue and CMFT Must Be Stopped. He tells Kaaos the writing process for CMFT was easy, considering the cache of quality songs he wrote. "The only thing I really wanted to do on this album was put the best songs forward because I've got enough material for three or four solo albums,” he said. “But I wanted this first album to really have that impact, to really put the best songs on there, put the best foot forward and show something that I've never shown the audience before.”

The drive to produce new and exciting music seems to be weighing on Taylor’s creative drive.

He described feeling disenchanted with playing due to lack of collaboration. “I just got to the point in my life where I don’t care about the romance of tension making a great album,” he said. “I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m tired of being miserable making music, and I only want to do music with people who love it just as much as I do.”

Taylor has been busy working on digital projects with Slipknot. The band was forced to cancel their North American Knotfest Roadshow tour due to COVID-19, and instead hosted an interactive online event.
