Dave Grohl has teamed up with Dey Street Books to announce that the Foo Fighters frontman will be publishing his very own book. THE STORYTELLER will be released on October 5 and will see Dave share the tales that helped shape him into who he is today.
“From hilarious childhood mishaps, touching family moments, leaving home to see the world at eighteen, to spectacular stories about Nirvana, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, Paul McCartney, playing drums for Tom Petty on Saturday Night Live, performing at the White House, and even swing dancing with AC/DC, with all love, laughs, loss, and embarrassments along the way, THE STORYTELLER is a fascinating look at a life lived loud,” a press release states.
“There is a common thread that runs throughout everything that I do: storytelling. Whether in song, documentary film or on the page, I have always felt compelled to share moments from my life,” Grohl said in a statement.
The inspiration for the book comes from an Instagram account he started in March 2020. Once he realized that the COVID-19 pandemic would cause his “day job with the Foo Fighters” to go on hold, he opted to start the @davestruestories Instagram account where he has been sharing fantastic tales from throughout his career.
“I took stock of all the experiences I’ve had in my life-incredible, difficult, funny and emotional-and decided it was time to finally put them into words,” he stated. “From my early days growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, to hitting the road at the age of 18, and all the music that followed, I can now share these adventures with the world, as seen and heard from behind the microphone. Turn it up!”
If you know Dave, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he took advantage of this opportunity to share stories from his life at length.
Recently, his masterful storytelling prowess was on full display when he shared the incredible story behind the Foo Fighters iconic song “Everlong.”
The song was never supposed to be an acoustic track, but an appearance on Howard Stern’s show helped change his mind. “I think sometimes when I do it this way it really does peel back some of the bells and whistles and the other noise when it’s just the lyric and the guitar and my voice,” he said at the time.
“I think it kind of makes the song feel the way I had always wished it had felt.”
