There’s no question Dolly Parton holds her “Tennessee Mountain Home” near and dear to her heart and she’s encouraging everyone to do their part to keep it and all other areas of Mother Nature clean and safe.

“We should pay more attention to how we’re treating our mountains, how we’re treating our world, how we’re just treating everything,” Parton told National Geographic Travel’s Amy Alipio. “We’re just mistreating Mother Nature.”

She continued, “That’s, like, being ugly to your mama, you know? That’s like being disrespectful, you know? Seriously. So, I really think we all need to pay closer attention to taking better care of the things that God gave us freely and that we’re so freely messing up. We need to rethink that and do better.”

Parton credits growing up in Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains for making her more aware of the importance of taking care of the land around her and soaking up all Mother Nature has to offer — especially when it comes to making music.

“There’s still a certain feeling by [making music] in the Smokies that you just feel like you’re on sacred ground,” she shared. “So you respect the land, and you respect what you’re doing.”

Dolly’s home state of Tennessee is all for showing the Smokies and Parton the highest amount of respect by recently making her song “Tennessee Mountain” home the official state song of Tennessee.
