Doobie Brothers, Notorious B.I.G., Whitney Houston Among 2020 Rock Hall Inductees

Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, T. Rex also get the nod

The Doobie BrothersDepeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex and Whitney Houston are this year’s inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

It’s been a long time coming for the Doobies, who helped soundtrack the 70s with hits like “China Grove” and have been eligible for years. T. Rex can same the same thing. Marc Bolan and company were perhaps best known "Bang a Gong (Get it On)" and are often cited as influences by rockers who have followed in their footsteps.

The Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston help give the hall some diversity and the late artists were among the most influential rappers of all time and one of the original divas, respectively.

Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails are influential in their own right with their distinct brands of electro rock.

The Dave Matthews Band was left out in their first year of eligibility despite winning the fan vote. It only makes up one ballot out of more than a thousand, but past results had proven to be a good indicator of success.

Pat Benatar, Soundgarden and Judas Priest were also on the fan ballot but did were not ultimately selected this year.

The other artists who were nominated but passed by were Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, Todd Rundgren, Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn, Kraftwerk and MC5.

The 2020 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in Cleveland on May 2nd.
