Eric Church explains why he thought he’d 'crash and burn' writing new music

'I fully expected this to be four days in, crash and burn, Kamikaze mission.'

After two weeks worth of celebrating the release of his triple album on-air with Rob + Holly, we’re really going to miss hearing Eric Church take over our radios for the Friday night Album Takeover. Maybe we should make him a permanent member of the show -- The Rob + Holly + Eric Show, it’s got a nice ring, right?

Surely Eric is too busy for us with the new releases, upcoming tour, and secluding himself in the mountains of North Carolina. You heard that right. During his chat with Rob + Holly, Eric shared the details of how this triple album came to be and it involves the mountains of North Carolina, complete isolation, a restaurant, and a lot of creativity.

“I had an idea — Let’s just make everybody uncomfortable… and let’s go to the mountains of North Carolina,” Eric shared. “I move everybody up there; my band, my crew, [producer] Jay Joyce and it’s all weird.”

As if pushing his team outside the comfort of their studios and homes wasn’t enough, Church later told his team he wanted to write and record a new song every day, for a month.

“It was very aggressive,” he admitted. “I fully expected this to be four days in, crash and burn, Kamikaze mission.”

Much to his (and everyone else’s) surprise, Church’s team found their groove and the outcome was “Heart & Soul” a triple album that is being praised by fans as some of his best work to date.

The albums aren’t the only thing giving Eric’s fans, the “Church Choir” life these days. Earlier this month, Eric announced The Gather Again Tour, a 55-city North American arena tour beginning this Fall.

“We shall rage, we shall roar, we will gather again,” Eric posted. “I cannot wait to see you, I cannot wait to see you, I cannot wait to see you.”

Tickets for the tour go on sale next month. In the meantime, check out Rob + Holly’s full interview with the chief above for even more info on his new music and what fans can expect in the future.
