During a Monday night livestream, the pop star revealed that her first album since 2017’s Tell Me You Love Me, titled Dancing With the Devil… The Art of Starting Over, is set to release April 2.
Fun Fact, Lovato also shared that the original title of the record was supposed to just be The Art of Starting Over, but after some consideration she decided to give it a double title interconnected to her upcoming four part documentary series, Dancing with the Devil, which will stream on YouTube starting Tuesday, March 23 and concludes on Tuesday, April 6, as both are “deeply personal” and explore Demi’s near fatal overdose in 2018, and her journey since.
“If you listen to it track by track, if you follow the track listing, it’s kind of actually like the non-official soundtrack to the documentary. Because it really does follow my life over the past couple of years,” Lovato said. “When we went through the track listing and kind of mapped out how it kind of coincided with my life’s story, it made sense to add the more emotional stuff in the beginning and then transition into The Art of Starting Over.”
The album, executive produced by Lovato and her manager, Scooter Braun is described by Demi as a mashup of genres, including Country, R&B and ’90s Pop. She also revealed that the album will contain 19 tracks, one of which is “Anyone,” which she teased with a stripped-down performance of at the 2020 GRAMMY Awards. Additionally she teased that the record will feature three bonus songs, and three collaborations (one of which might be Ariana Grande).
