"I actually took so much sort of inspiration from folk horror and horror movies," Florence says of her latest effort. "If the last album was kind of based on this dark fairytale mythology, I'm like, this one's just a horror."

"I also think it was an album that kind of wrestles with life and death and like darker themes, but you know, there's a lot of nature in it as well, And I think it's a seasonal record as well. It feels very like autumnal to me. There's lots of little bits of nature threaded through it, so it just seemed like the absolute perfect moment to release it."

Welch did a lot to prepare for that freighting feeling threaded through Everybody Scream, including studying witchcraft and binging horror films. Although, the horror films were more relaxing to Florence than you might imagine.

"I've been binge-watching horror movies for a while," she reveals. "People might find this strange, but I actually watch them as like a way to soothe anxiety. When my mind is racing and I can't stop the horror movie of my own thoughts, I put on a horror movie and it's kind of one of the only things that will hold my attention."

"There's incredible things that happen in horror in terms of like storylines and production and if you can get past them just being scary, you can appreciate all that."
