We regretfully announce the passing of rapper, Black Rob. The Buffalo native has died at the age of 51. The tragic news was confirmed by close friends like singer, Mario Winans and fellow former Bad Boy signee, Mark Curry and comes only a week after the Hip Hop community lost the legendary DMX.
Black Rob was known for his 2000 hit, "Whoa!" that spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Black Rob has been seeking medical help and housing after a concerning video surfaced of him in the hospital. However, the fundraiser never reached its goal and Curry even expressed that the rapper had been discharged from the hospital. Winans confirmed the rapper's death via Instagram, saying, "this hit my heart....... we will NEVER forget you brother! RIP BLACK ROB!" In an emotional video, Curry announced Black Rob's passing in a video.
DJ Self confirmed that Black Rob had been battling several health issues, including kidney failure— something he had been dealing with for years. He also suffered four strokes in recent years. The official cause of death is unknown.
