Britt Ekland is opening up about some of her past cosmetic procedures.
The 78-year-old, who played a Bond girl opposite Roger Moore in the 1974 film “The Man with the Golden Gun,” has disclosed she regrets getting a “lip plumping” procedure in Paris back in the ‘90s.
“Everyone has the right to choose [surgery],” Ekland told Platinum magazine, per the Daily Mail “I did all of that in my 50s, but wouldn't consider it again. I have no desire to look any different than I am.”
Instead of the moderate treatment she expected, the doctor made multiple injections all around the rim of her lips with Artecoll, which he claimed was simply a “new dental material,” according to the outlet. Artecoll, unlike more modern lip injections, is semi-permanent.
Wendy Lewis, an international consultant in cosmetic surgery, told the Daily Mail that Artecoll is a bovine collagen that was briefly in vogue as a filler and lip plumper in the 1990s. Its use is now regarded as risky. It is rarely, if ever, used in the UK, and it was never approved for use in the U.S.
Ekland further admitted she had her ears pinned back too.
For the next 20 years, the star went through numerous “excruciatingly painful” corticosteroid injections in a bid to “melt” the Artecoll.
“It destroyed my looks and ruined my face. It was the biggest mistake of my life,” the Swedish actress added. "When I look at photographs of myself before I had it done, I looked very good. I can see that now, but I couldn't see it at the time.”
With the ordeal behind her, Ekland now feels much more content with aging gracefully.
“I feel great now,” said Ekland, “better than I have for many years... Getting older happens to everyone. It's pointless complaining about it or wishing you could change."
She continued: “We're all going in one direction and there is nothing we can do about that.. It's just about looking after yourself while on that journey.”
