Just in time for Valentine’s day, up and comer, MEIA, is launching her music around the idea that being unapologetically confident is the key to “breaking the stigma surrounding self-love and embracing one's sexuality.”
Today, the Nashville-based artist dropped her brand new single “Date Myself,” and tells us the fresh track focuses on the idea of accepting yourself above all. “I’m 23, I’m learning to love, I’m learning to be loved and I’m learning to fall in love with myself more and more every day and how important that is when it comes to loving another person,” MEIA tells RADIO.COM. She adds, “ ‘Date Myself’ is a sexy, fun, playful spin on that.”

MEIA, who considers herself a “bold human” shares that she is very comfortable being open about sexuality and aims to inspire listeners to find the power within owning your sexuality. The 23-year-old says that the new song hinges on the idea that no one can love you better physically, than yourself. She also says the song centers around, “at least putting yourself first or continuing to do that even if you’re not single and you are in a relationship, and not forgetting about you individually.”
The artist, who garners inspiration from stars such as Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Avril Lavigne, is all about empowering “women in hopes that they start to care less about society’s standards and just embrace how they feel. I think the world has changed quite a bit and women are now, more than ever expressing their sexuality. Men aren’t the only ones who crave sex.”
MEIA has no room for the term “ladylike” in her day to day and hopes that when fans get to know her music, they recognize that she is outspoken but “approachable,” adding “ I hope people are like ‘I just want to give her a hug.’” The Cleveland-born artist aims to reciprocate the support that her fans give her by speaking about the things we collectively experience through song.

In terms of being part of the conversation around empowerment, MEIA’s sentiment is anything but a trending hashtag. “What I bring to the table as far as… making people feel empowered is just having kind of no filter, saying how I feel when I feel it, and not being afraid of what society is going to think or what the outcome is,” explains the singer. Additionally, she concludes, “Because at the end of the day I know we’re all human and I know we all experience it, so I always say, ‘whether you’re going to sing the song quietly…or you’re going to sing the song out loud and bold, you’re going to be able to relate.”
MEIA’s “Date Myself” is out everywhere today.
