Green Day premiere new song '1981' during festival set

The song's live debut came in Quebec on Sunday

Green Day surprised fans with a new song during their set at Festival d'été de Québec on Sunday night.

Green Day fans online were quick to notice that the live debut of "1981," which they dropped in between their 2000 Warning track "Minority" and a cover of Operation Ivy's "Knowledge" towards the tail-end of their headlining Festival d'été de Québec performance, had previously been teased by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong back in 2022.

Green Day's most recent studio album, Father of All Mfers, was released in early 2020, although they seemed to be teasing a new project called '1972' last year following the release of their 16-track BBC Sessions which dropped in December.

The band is set to play another pair of festivals this fall with Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky happening this September, and When We Were Young in Las Vegas, Nevada this October.
