Halle Berry kicked off the start of a new year with a little bit of mischief.

Over the weekend, the “X-Men” star posted a photo to her Instagram that looked like a wedding scene, with Berry kissing her man, Van Hunt, at the altar of a wood-lined little chapel.

And the caption matched the implication: “Well… IT’S OFFICIAL!”

But the next slideshow shot of the smiling couple with the caption, “It’s 2022!” cleared up the implication that it was some kind of elopement post, though seemingly not all of her followers kept swiping to see the reveal.

As Today reported, the fevered speculation among fans and even some of Berry’s famous friends went through the roof.

Actress Octavia Spencer commented, “Congratulations!!!!!” And Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson chimed in with, “Congrats you two!!! Beautiful!!” plus three clapping-hands emoji.

Such was the rumor wildfire spread that Berry needed to go back to Instagram to clear up the confusion.

24 hours later, she posted another shot of the huggy couple in the same location with the caption, “We were just having some New Year’s Day fun! People clearly don’t swipe as much as we thought they did. 😂 thank you for the well wishes, tho’, it really touched our hearts!”

The actress’ excited “IT’S OFFICIAL” blurb was just referring to it officially being 2022, but Berry continued to tease her followers in a lighthearted way, adding the hashtags “nomoreswipes4me” and “Januaryfoolsday.”

Hunt soon posted his own follow-up – a photo of him planted face-first in a lake with the caption, “Me after finding out i’m not really married to Halle Berry.”

As Today explained, this romance goes back a bit now, which might’ve also added to the nuptials assumption. Berry first hinted at her relationship with Hunt way back in September 2020, when she wore a Van Hunt t-shirt in one of her Instagram photos with the caption, “ Now ya know…;" while Hunt uploaded the same picture and added, “There you go…”

Berry was previously married to Oliver Martinez from 2013 to 2016. Before that, she was married to former pro baseball star David Justice from 1993 to 1997, and then to musician Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005. She also shares a daughter, Nahla, 13, with ex-boyfriend Gabrial Aubry, and son Maceo, 8, with Martinez.
