As reported by Forbes Magazine just yesterday, Katy Perry’s net worth has skyrocketed (firework-ed, if you will) to place her among the top female entrepreneurs in the United States. With an estimated net worth of over $340 million, the singer is now among the “richest self-made women in America” and is expected to reach Forbes’ official ‘list’ in 2024. Surely this was just a matter of time, as Forbes even deemed Katy Perry’s “America’s Pop Export” back in 2015. The outlet wrote, “With her increased net worth, she would join the ranks alongside other wealthy female musicians, including Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Madonna, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, and Barbra Streisand.”
The sudden increase in status is due, in part, to her recent music catalog sale to Litmus Music. Reportedly adding a solid $225 million to the pot, Perry sold her stake in all her master recordings royalties and publishing rights in her 5 album catalog, including the groundbreaking One Of The Boys, Teenage Dream and PRISM. This marks one of the biggest music sales of 2023, beating out catalog sales from the likes of Justin Bieber, Dr. Dre, and Phil Collins/Genesis.
Why the fuss around Katy Perry’s catalog? Well, for starters, her number of generational-defining singles is not one matched by many artists. "Firework," "Roar," "Dark Horse," “I Kissed a Girl,” “Wide Awake,” the classic “Hot N Cold,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” and countless others make her catalog beyond worthwhile.
