Iron Butterfly’s longtime drummer, Ron Bushy, has died at the age of 79.

According to TMZ, the musician passed away in Los Angeles on August 29 after succumbing to cancer. Busy reportedly “passed away peacefully, with his wife, Nancy, by his side.”
“Ron Bushy, our beloved legendary drummer of Iron Butterfly, has passed away peacefully,” the band shared in a statement. “He was a real fighter… He will be deeply missed.”
Bushy was the only member of the group, known for its psychedelic and hard rock sound, to appear on all six studio albums. Playing drums from Heavy, released in 1968 to Sun and Steel, released in 1975, Bushy stayed steady while other members came and went.
He is most well-known for his drum solo in the title track of the band’s second album, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, a track that lasted 17 minutes long.
Bushy is survived by his wife, Nancy, and three daughters.
