The “Aquaman” star is going all in supporting his friend Travis Snyder who has been battling myeloid leukemia for years. Snyder is in need of a blood stem cell transplant to combat his cancer but has not found a match. The two pals are teaming up to get people to become potential blood stem cell donors with the Be The Match Registry.

Momoa and Snyder became fast friends meeting in Hawaii six years ago, shortly after Snyder’s first cancer diagnosis.

The pair recently spoke with People about their passion for this project.

“I’m supposed to be a superhero,” Momoa, 42, said. “And you think, ‘God, anyone at any time, if you’re just a part of the registry, you have an option to save a life.”

“We have the power to actually save someone’s life and most people won’t do that in a lifetime,” he continued. “So I think it’s being a hero and being the match is something that I would love to help my friend out with—and so many children, and other people [in need].

Snyder told People that while he is hopeful for a match himself, just raising awareness about the registry and helping others in situations similar to his own is huge.

“I also feel the obligation to raise it just generally,” he said. “Either way, this is a win’ win for me, because if I, through this, find a match and it’s better for me, great. And if not, I go out raising this thing as high as I can for generations to come.”

Momoa echoed his friend’s sentiments saying those who add themselves to the registry are “angels.”

Interested "angels" can head to the The Be The Match Registry as the organization accepts anyone between ages 18 and 40.

Beyond fighting leukemia Momoa is gearing up for the 2023 release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.
