
Jennifer Hudson took home the biggest award of the night at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards. The singer and actress was gratefully awarded Entertainer of the Year.

“I did not see this coming by any means, but Lord knows I’m grateful,” Hudson said in her acceptance speech. The American Idol alumna also won an Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. Last year, she remarkably starred as Aretha Franklin in the musical drama Respect.
The 53rd annual award show was televised Saturday night on BET. Other notable winners include Will Smith, who won the Outstanding Actor Award for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard. Based on the life story of Serena and Venus Williams, Smith starred as their father in the biographical film. Moreover, Issa Rae accepted the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series Award for her lead role in Insecure. The comedic-drama also won an award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson presented the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with the President’s Award. Also, Samuel L. Jackson accepted The Chairman’s Award and Nikole Hannah-Jones accepted the Social Justice Impact Award. Lastly, Mary J. Blige graced the stage mid-show, performing “Good Morning Gorgeous” and her 1992 hit “Love No Limit.” You can check out her performance below.
