It’s true that The Voice judges never quite know what to expect when it comes to auditions, largely in part their backs being turned at the start of the song. However, during The Voice’s return to television with two brand new coaches, Niall Horan and Chance The Rapper, the foursome, also including Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, were in for an even bigger surprise, thanks to a famous fake contestant.

During the March 7 episode, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon lent his musical talents to the NBC show with a performance of Michael McDonald's "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)." Of course, like all auditions on "The Voice," the four judges had no idea who was singing.

Out of the four, Clarkson was the first judge to spin around, erupting in laughter as soon as she spotted the talk show host. Soon after, Niall and Chance hit their buttons to turn around, leaving only Blake unconvinced with his back turned. That is until Fallon walked up to his chair and pushed the button himself.

As Fallon revealed, his surprise appearance was his way of honoring Shelton who’s been a part of the show since its start and plans to exit The Voice after its current season. "I texted Carson and said, I gotta come over. 23 seasons — you're a legend," Fallon told Shelton and the millions of people watching at home.

Oh and just in case you were wondering which coach Jimmy would pick, the comedian also revealed that he'd choose Clarkson. "I'm on Kelly's team!" he said. "Thank you for turning around.”
