Justin Theroux is setting the record straight.

More than three years after splitting from Jennifer Aniston, “The Leftovers” star is pushing back on rumors that their break-up had to do with each wanting to live on different coasts. Specifically, reports that he was content to live in New York, while she preferred Los Angeles.

“That’s a narrative that is not true, for the most part,” the 49-year-old told Esquire.

“Look, people create narratives that make themselves feel better or simplify things for them. That whole ‘This person likes rock ’n’ roll, that person likes jazz. Of course!’ That’s just not the case. It’s an oversimplification,” he added without elaborating further.

The pair married in 2015 and announced their separation in 2018. Despite the demise of their romantic relationship, the former couple are still close.

“I would say we’ve remained friends,” Theroux shared. “We don’t talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text.”

Theroux went on to complement his ex and disclosed they still “love each other.”

“Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other,” he continued.

“I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship. We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She’s a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally. And I’d like to think the same for her.”

In February, Theroux sent Aniston a sweet message for her 52nd birthday via his Instagram Story.

"Happy birthday @jenniferaniston," he wrote at the top of a black and white image of Aniston on a staircase. "[Love] you B!" he added at the bottom, including a red heart emoji in the comment.
