In the book, Spears pulled the curtain back on the pair’s relationship in 2000 telling readers she had an abortion after becoming pregnant with his baby. While Timberlake has remained tight-lipped surrounding the controversy, he hinted at at it during a set in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
"No disrespect," he simply said before singing his break-up song, “Cry Me A River,” which Spears demolished in her book. The ballad came out in 2002 — the same year Timberlake and Spears split — and the music video featured a woman resembling Spears.
"I felt there was no way at the time to tell my side of the story," Spears wrote in her memoir referring to the break-up. "I couldn't explain, because I knew no one would take my side once Justin had convinced the world of his version. I don't think Justin realized the power he had in shaming me. I don't think he understands to this day."
Since their split, Timberlake has acknowledged some regret in how he’ treated Britney after their relationship was brought to the surface in New York Times Framing Britney Spears documentary in 2021..
“I care deeply about the wellbeing of the people I love and have loved. I can do better and I will do better,” he wrote in a statement at the time.
