There’s been a lot to navigate for Ballerini since filing for divorce earlier this year from fellow Country singer, Morgan Evans, whom she wed in 2017. The Knoxville-native shared while the decision was a tough one to make, she is at peace with it being the right one.
“I feel like just making that decision for my life was really daunting and scary for a lot of reasons,” she told Handler. “My parents got divorced when I was 12 and I’m an only child and navigating that was traumatic and then, also, growing up in the South, growing up super religious. All these things — being in a relationship with another public person in my industry — all these things were telling me like, ‘just figure it out, stay where you’re at,’ but everything in my heart and soul and body was like, ‘This is an end.’”
Ballerini followed her heart, which has always been her compass, and says she’s felt nothing but reassured that she made the right decision.
“When you honor yourself and do the hard thing that is the right thing, I mean, my God, I could tell you a million stories in just the last eight, nine months of just life God, universe — whatever you believe in — rewarding me and making it very obvious and it’s just been great. I’m super happy.”
Since her split from Evans, Kelsea has gone public with her new relationship with Outer Banks star, Chase Stokes. The couple made things official in February 2023 and Ballerini says the 30-year-old heartthrob has helped her get her "silly" back.
“I feel silly again, and that probably sounds stupid but, it’s not hard to find the heaviness in life, it’s hard to find the play,” she explained. “It’s really hard to find the things that bring you back to your child-like self, that make you giggle and feel silly. I feel like I get to be silly again…. that’s been really, really beautiful to reconnect to that part of my relationship.”
