Everybody, just take a breath because there's a lot to process. Kendrick Lamar is one of few artists known for taking an extended hiatus while still being in high demand. So, when he broke his silence via social media on Friday (Aug. 20), he immediately had the world's attention.

He tweeted a link to a site entitled oklama.com with a folder labeled "nu thoughts." In the reflective statement he detailed spending his days "with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence" and [going] "months without a phone."
The Compton native spoke on having his comfort zone disrupted through love, loss and grief, "but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family." He revealed that he's in the process of producing his final album with Top Dawg Entertainment, his label of nearly two decades.
The rapper expressed, "I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint [...] The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling."
K.Dot continued, "There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown [...] See you soon enough." He signed the open letter under the moniker, oklama. With the letter appearing very carefully written, we assume he's not retiring; he's simply leaving his label. Either way, we're so ready for this next chapter of Kendrick.
