Over the weekend, the security guard, identified as Devyn Sanford, was working at the Houston Toyota Center for Lamar’s Big Steppers Tour. During a live performance of "Love," Sanford is seen off stage weeping and wiping away tears while nodding to the music. The now-viral TikTok has garnered over 11 million views. "Getting paid and having a spiritual experience is a win,” one TikTok user commented.
Stanford recently told Fox 26 that Lamar is one of his favorite artists and he was unaware the moment had been captured until afterwards. "I woke up the next day and it was everywhere," he said. "I'm still taking it all in right now." Stanford also mentioned that the song "Love" holds significant meaning for him. "The words, the crowd around me, everyone was screaming and reaching for Kendrick and crying and I kind of like absorbed everybody's emotions. I was trying my best to hold it together and I just cracked," he added.
Since then, the “DNA” rapper has responded by shouting-out Stanford directly. Lamar told 11-year-old journalist and social media sensation Jazlyn "Jazzy" Guerra how he felt after seeing the clip. “At the end of the day, pass all the numbers pass all the politics, it’s what music makes you feel,” he said. Additionally, Lamar's team has now reached out to send Stanford free merch.
