As the community continues to pick up the pieces after this weekend’s mass shooting in El Paso, a famous resident is looking for ways to help the healing.

Khalid moved to El Paso during High School, and launched his GRAMMY-nominated career from the West Texas town. Now in a string of messages he has announced the beginning stages of a benefit concert for the shooting victims and families.

“Over the past few days, my mind and heart have been heavy” he wrote on Twitter Monday. “Hearing/seeing an act of terrorism happen so close to home, my family, and my friends has been unbelievable and shocking.”

Khalid has always been a big supporter of the city of El Paso, even receiving a key to the city in 2018. “Singing ‘915’ and ‘city of El Paso’ on tour every night feels indescribable” he continues.

“I’ve been thinking of ways to help out and support the city. I’m planning for a benefit concert later this month, all of the proceeds will go to the families affected by the shooting. Sending everyone my love and will keep you guys updated.”

The death toll for a shooting that took place on Saturday at an El Paso Walmart has risen to 22. The suspected gunman has been booked on capital murder charges.

Khalid also acknowledged the shooting which happened in Dayton, Ohio just hours later. “America is hurting right now” the singer concluded.

Khalid is currently on his Free Spirit World Tour. You can find the full list of dates here.
