On June 1, the first day of Pride Month, the “SUN GOES DOWN,” artist sent out a thread of sardonically comical Tweets, offering fans some major perks. The rapper jokingly wrote, “Happy pride month. I will be having sex with 100 lucky fans to celebrate.”

The artist then spoke directly to his straight fans, offering half-serious advice on how to support members of the LGBTQ+ community during Pride, Tweeting, “For pride month if you have friends who are part of the lgbtq+ community let them know that they are loved. Give them all your money.”

However, fans began to ponder why the artist wasn’t actually offering up money to his queer fans. Choosing to put his money where his mouth is, Lil Nas X followed up with a Tweet that read, “I’ve decided to do my part, everybody in the lgbtq+ community reply with a [rainbow emoji] for $100.” He added, “Please don’t be shy. All fruitcakes to the podium.”

Closing with a series of vibrant photos, clad in a Prince-inspired, purple jumpsuit, the artist ended his thread by sincerely wishing his followers a “happy pride month.”

Prior to his string of Pride Tweets, Lil Nas X had been facing some hot water on social media, even though he tends to not take trolling seriously.

On May 31, the singer appeared in a TikTok video with Quenlin Blackwell. During the video, Lil Nas X lists off women he “would try to date if” he “was straight.” He names artists such as SZA and Billie Eilish.

The rapper posted the video to Twitter as well. But many fans were not happy with the clip, feeling like the artist was being exploitative for clout.

Lil Nas X has quietly deleted the video off of his Twitter account.
