While in conversation with British GQ, the rapper discussed how he felt after his record-breaking No.1 song, “Old Town Road,” lost to Eilish’s, “Bad Guy,” for one of the highest honors a song can receive.

The “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” the artist recalled thinking, “Damn, but how? I have the biggest song. This isn’t fair,” while Billie went up on stage to grab her trophy during the January 26th, 2020 ceremony.

He added, “I put all that energy I was feeling onto her. It became jealousy that wasn’t warranted.”

However, a few months later when pandemic lockdowns went into effect, Lil Nas X said he began reflecting on the loss and taking stock of all the blessings in his life.

He said he asked himself, You have the longest-running number-one song, why the f*** are you jealous about this award? We are already so blessed. Even if you don't have these things, you're here. You're still alive. You exist. You shouldn't have any reason to be jealous."

“Old Town Road” goes down in history as the longest-running No.1 song to sit atop the chart for an astonishing 19 weeks. But the record’s run at the top ended during the week of August 24, 2019, when “Bad Guy” snagged the top spot after spending nine weeks at No.2.

During the 62nd annual GRAMMYs, the “Panini” singer may not have snatched any trophies for his diamond-certified single, but he took home two gramophones for Best Music Video and the other for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Throughout the pandemic, Lil Nas X explained how he’s been trying to work on “killing off” feelings of jealousy and negativity, while also expanding his personal growth.

The artist says he’s been reading books like The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*** by Mark Manson, which has allowed him to focus his attention and energy on the most important aspects of life.

“It teaches you to block out the things in your life that you don't really care about,” shared the 22-year-old. He continued, “Like if I read a negative comment or whatever, I get to decide, is this important to me? Is this true? Is this not true? If it is true, then how do we make it untrue? If it isn't true, then why the f*** do we care?"
