Carly Pearce has proven to be unstoppable. Still riding high with the success of her albums, 29 and 29: Written In Stone, Carly has kept things going strong with her new single, “Never Wanted to be that Girl,” featuring fellow Country artist, Ashley McBryde.
While a seemingly unconventional match, both Ashley and Carly found they have more in common than not after working on the single with one another.
“Nobody ever thinks it will happen to them,” said Pearce of the song’s concept. “You never see it coming, but there’s always an explanation. You know, who’d ever want to think that way about someone they love. Why would you? And so, that’s where this song started: the things you don’t see, because you’d never look.”
She continued, “Ashley is such a great drop-into-the-moment writer, she was able to bring that reality bomb truth to what we were doing,” Pearce stated. “She’s fearless, and she understands human nature in a way that let us both really write to the hurt of realizing we’ve been lied to by someone we’re intimate with.”
The pair are celebrating the song’s nomination at this year’s ACM Awards in the Music Event of the Year and Video of the Year categories. Additionally, Pearce is up for two additional, solo nominations in the Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year categories.
