In the midst of his current battle with cancer and chemotherapy sessions which have left him feeling weak much of the time, blink-182’s Mark Hoppus decided to pick up his bass for the first time this week and share some news of his progress.

Hoppus jumped on his Twitch stream on Saturday, and played along to blink-182’s 2005 track “Not Now.”

"Not only is this the first time that I’ve tried to play these songs in well over a year, this is the first time that I’ve felt well enough to play my bass since I was diagnosed," Mark said. "This is the first time I’ve picked up my bass in a few months, even."

Watching Mark play along was awesome enough, but the smile he squeezed in right at the beginning made us feel truly inspired and, honestly, a little emotional. Earlier this month, Hoppus shared the specific cancer he's been diagnosed with -- diffuse large B-cell lymphoma -- saying, "my classification is stage IV-A, which means, as I understand it, it’s entered four parts of my body."

Just a few days after the revelation, Mark publicly thanked the "poison" doctors have been giving him during his chemo treatments, as well as the good vibes he's been receiving from fans, in another update. "Scans indicate that the chemo is working," Hoppus said with understood excitement.

"I still have months of treatment ahead, but it’s the best possible news. I’m so grateful and confused and also sick from last week’s chemo. But the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of people around me are destroying this cancer," he added.
