Martha Stewart shared on Instagram Sunday that her beloved cat was killed by her dogs, who she said mistook the feline as an "interloper."
"Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony," Stewart, 80, wrote on her Instagram post. "The four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self. i will miss her very badly."
The cat, Princess Peony, was one of two Persian calico cats owned by Stewart, the other being Empress Tang, according to her website.
Stewart shared on Instagram a photo of her beloved cat with colorful fur and a round face. She adopted both of the cats in September 2009.
As for her dogs, Stewart owns four, two chow chows, Emperor Han and Empress Qin, and two French bulldogs, Bete Noire and Creme Brûlée.
Several stars reached out to the cooking icon offering their condolences. The list included Kris Jenner, Ellen Pompeo, and journalist Adam Housley.
Stewart is a big animal lover and has been known for several of her pets, including her first cat Chiggi, who was adopted from a shelter.
"To know Martha Stewart is to know how much she loves all animals of all kinds," her website reads.
Stewart even hosted Animal Planet's 18th annual "Puppy Bowl," which mimics the Super Bowl, with co-host Snoop Dogg on Feb. 13.
