While it seems a new reboot is being announced on an almost daily basis, an update of ‘90s sitcom “Blossom” has run into resistance.
Mayim Bialik, who portrayed the titular character on the NBC series, has revealed she and show creator Don Reo have run into major hurdles trying to get a revival made.
"I guess I'm allowed to talk about this now, Don Reo and I do have a limited reboot that we would like to do,” Bialik told Entertainment Weekly. “We've had a lot of trouble getting our network onboard.”
While she didn’t divulge any more details on the setbacks, the 45-year-old has a clear vision of what the character would be doing today.
She’d be "a civil rights attorney or someone working with children who were removed from their homes. She'd be doing something humanitarian,” Bialik told the outlet.
Although the project may have stalled, the “Big Bang Theory” star isn’t giving up hope.
"It's been really fascinating. At a certain point, I may just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do it because we absolutely would love people to see where these characters are," she said.
"[Reo] and I talked about it and we kind of decided after literally years of trying to work on this that I would probably just say it out loud. We do have a well-formed idea and we would love someone to let us do it."
Airing for five seasons from 1991 to 1995, “Blossom” followed as the teenager navigated life being raised by her single dad (Ted Wass) alongside her two brothers (Michael Stoyanov, Joey Lawrence).
The series became known for Lawrence’s “whoa” catchphrase and Bialik’s large flowery, floppy hats, of which she considers a regrettable fashion choice.
"Of anyone, I should not be seen in those hats,” Bialik joked. “I did it once and I'm done. Other people can wear them but I will never wear one again."
Until a reboot comes to fruition, fans stream all five classic seasons of “Blossom” on Hulu.
