LISTEN NOW: Mekai Curtis on 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan'
Forced to confront this web of lies, Kanan faced an existential crisis of self-discovery and emerged stronger and more resolute than ever. Although he embraced his true self, and broke free from his mother’s influence, he still couldn’t let her crimes go unanswered. Now moving in to the finale season of Raising Kanan, the stakes are high and every episode rememberable. In recent conversation with Audacy and Romeo International, MeKai Curtis shares his thoughts on its finale.
Your character this season is nonsense, cold, dark. Is this where you wanted Kanan Stark to be?
"This is the story. I think that was always the goal going into it. It wasn't always going to be rainbows and bubble gum and unicorns. I don't think he's just like dark and stoic and all the things for no reason. I think everything that's happened in the last 4 seasons leading up to 5 are all pieces of that puzzle."
"They were all seeds that are now kind of like blossoming. Kanan's at a point of just, instead of having the questions about the world he's in, he is understanding the world he's in. He’s understanding his role in it, what he's caused, what he's responsible for. That's a difficult conversation, a difficult topic for anybody to come across and actually sit with what you're doing. Sometimes it gets to a point where you can't necessarily run from it or hide from it. Things are going to be so in your face and present that you have to deal with it and that's what you've seen happen with Kanan."
