Millie Bobby Brown is looking to channel the soulful spirit of Amy Winehouse, telling Netflix Latinoámerica she “would love to play" the late superstar in a biopic.

“I personally think she is like an icon to R&B and blues and basically the whole culture of music,” the Stranger Things star said during an interview to promote her latest Netflix film Enola Holmes. “I just love her music and I really was impacted by her whole story – so I would love to play her.”

A Winehouse biopic has been kicked around Hollywood since 2018 when the late singer’s father Mitch told Paul Danan on “The Morning After Podcast" back in May: “We’ve got a lovely movie, a lovely Broadway show coming, and that’s how we’ll get our own back, by portraying Amy the way she was.”

“The movie is gonna be in a year or two. We’ve gone beyond talks, we’re at script stage. The film is going to be a biopic.” There was no mention of Millie playing Amy during the conversation.

Anyone questioning Brown’s vocal chops to accurately portray one of the bestselling artists in UK history need only check out her performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, last May. Millie and Jimmy went tit-for-tat singing classic hits during a “Beat Battle.” Her rendition of Shawn Mendes’ “If I Can’t Have You” is pure fire.

Movie roles aren’t the only thing racking the 16-year-old’s brain during this pandemic. She also completed a teenage rite of passage, obtaining her driver’s license. “Well, I got my driver’s license in quarantine,” the teenager told W magazine. “It was very strange taking a socially distanced driving test.”
