Nicole Kidman admits she is ‘way out of my comfort zone’ playing Lucille Ball in 'Being the Ricardos'

Nicole Kidman recently spoke about her role as Lucille Ball in the upcoming film “Being the Ricardos” and she knows the job won’t be easy.

The Oscar winner and “Undoing” actress spoke to Chris Rock about what it is like taking on the role of the “I Love Lucy” star and comedy legend during a conversation for Variety’s Actor on Actors series.

"I am way out of my comfort zone right now, Chris. I’m free-falling,” Kidman told the stand-up comedian and actor, 56.

Kidman also told Rock that she knows she is entering his comedy domain.

“I’d like to be funny. I’m never cast funny,” she said.

“Oh, you could be funny,” Rock replied. “You’re playing Lucille Ball. You better be funny."

“Lucille Ball is hopefully funny,” Kidman responded. “The strange thing about Lucille Ball is that everyone thinks we’re remaking the ‘I Love Lucy’ show, and it’s so not that. It’s about Lucy and Desi (Arnaz) and their relationship and their marriage. It’s very deep, actually.”

In April, the first photos of Kidman’s transformation into her character emerged while on set. The photos show Kidman, 53, sporting bright orange-colored hair emblematic of the mid-century Hollywood star.

“Being the Ricardos” is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who’s known for his work on series like “The West Wing” and “The Newsroom,” and films like “The Social Network,” “Steve Jobs” and “The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

Kidman will star as Ball alongside Javier Bardem, who is cast as Ball’s then-husband and “I Love Lucy” costar, Desi Arnaz. Deadline first reported that he and Kidman were in talks for the role.

"Being the Ricardos" does not yet have a release date.
