Whether you’re a fan or not of Lil Nas X, there’s one thing you can’t deny… he remains committed to the bit, especially in the name of comedic trolling. You could even perhaps go as far as saying he’s the king of it.
This time, for the viral storyline to go with his latest single, "That's What I Want,” Nas recruited Maury "You Are Not The Father" Povich to help him out with an "unbelievable love triangle" he seems to have gotten himself into. Which is, of course, artfully depicted in a slightly over 20-minute video.
Curious? Same. So let’s get into it —
See, what had happened was, after falling in love at football practice Lil Nas, who goes by "Montero" in the clip, and his boyfriend Yai Ariza have shared an incredible month together “that has felt like a lifetime.” But as it turns out, Yai was already spoken for, and was actually married to a woman named Ashley. Ashley, of course, has been oblivious to Yai’s extracurricular activities the entire time. So, obviously, the best way for her to find out is on The Maury Show, where all the drama unfolds in front of a live studio audience. AH! So scandalous, but LBH, nothing Maury hasn't seen before.
In the segment titled, “Leave Your Wife for Me Today … That’s What I Want.” Nas informs Ashley of the affair that he’s been having with her husband. In turn, she brands him a home-wrecker which…. okay fine, but like a bit harsh since he didn’t know. Ariza annoyingly states the obvious and tells Maury he's confused. Then, to get the full episode of Maury experience, come the onslaught of dramatic staples — a paternity test, because (spoiler) Ariza and Ashley have a child together, a lie detector tests, and (another spoiler) a proposal.
And in case you aren’t already sold to press play, we’ll get into more details (again warning cause spoiler city ahead). At one point things get heated between Nas and Ashley after he shares some steamy photos of him and Ariza making out. And in an unexpected turn of events, after Yai proposes to Nas he of course then has to take a lie-detector test that ended up determining he actually cheated on Nas with more than 10 other people (BIG yikes).
But if we’re keeping it 100, we’re not too concerned, cause there’s at least a 50% chance the entire episode of the melodramatic daytime show was all just a fever dream. With the other 50% being that it was so highly believable it seemed real. A debate that Nas ultimately took care of with a title card at the end of the video that read, "The 'Montero' segment is a collaboration between Lil Nas X and The Maury Show for entertainment purposes. The storyline is loosely based on the music video, 'That's What I Want' by Lil Nas X.”
