Opening up to the fashion publication in her most in-depth interview yet, Rihanna candidly discussed her pregnancy, revealing it wasn't quite planned, as well as how her boyfriend and baby daddy A$AP Rocky went from being her friend to her mans.
“People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me,” she shared. “And I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.”
But it was in fact quarantining together that RiRi credits in helping to take their friendship into relationship status. Revealing that in Summer 2020 the two took a tour bus road trip across the U.S., having fun at every stop. “He became my family in that time,” she noted.
“I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,” she said. With Rocky, “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bulls***, it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”

Speaking of, the duo are about to embark on a pretty big part of life together — parenthood. Which Rih also revealed wasn’t particularly planned, but welcomed nonetheless.
“I wouldn’t say ‘planning.’ But certainly not planning against it,” she explains. “I don’t know when I ovulate or any of that type of s***. We just had fun. And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”
“I always thought it would be marriage first, then a baby,” Rihanna added, “but who the f*** says it has to be that way. I’m certainly not gonna let that get in the way of me being a mom.”
As for her continuing to slay every red carpet, street wear, and basically any other look throughout her pregnancy — we can’t say we’re entirely surprised. After all… she is Rihanna.
"When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, 'there's no way I'm going to go shopping in no maternity aisle,'" she told Vogue. "I'm sorry — it's too much fun to get dressed up. I'm not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing.”
Proudly putting her bump on display, RiRi graces Vogue’s cover in a red lace Alaïa bodysuit, which she followed up with a series of equally stunning looks within its pages. From posing pretty in a chic Rick Owens red cropped jacket and a matching skirt, and stunning us all in a Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture By Glenn Martens dress, to slaying in jacket, sunglasses, and gloves by Dior, Savage X Fenty briefs and Balenciaga boots, Rihanna’s style hasn’t faltered (oh, and we didn't even mention all of her looks).
But in truth, for Rihanna it’s much more than just giving up her personal style on account of her burgeoning baby bump. Hopeful her mentality about dressing her ever-changing and growing body becomes a standout to those the same journey and in turn influences them to love their bodies and do the same in their own way.
"I'm hoping that we were able to redefine what's considered 'decent' for pregnant women,” she expressed. "My body is doing incredible things right now, and I'm not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?”
