Over the weekend, Rod Wave helped hundreds of people in his hometown with a gas giveaway. The "Heart On Ice" rapper donated $25,000 worth of free gasoline at a Sunoco Gas Station in St. Petersburg, Florida. “It shows me that he still is humble,” Wave’s mother Charmaine Newsome told the Tampa Bay Times. Newsome also volunteered to help pump gas for drivers.
Rod Wave previously announced the giveaway on Instagram. “Gas [prices] high as f***. Ay, St. Petersburg, Florida, St. Pete, 727 — giving away free gas April 9 at the Sunoco on 34th right before you get on the bridge,” he said in the IG video. “April 9, I’m giving away $25,000 in free gas. So April 9, 12 o’clock, pull up and get you a free full tank.” Reportedly, drivers were able to receive up to $50 of gas, equivalent to about 12 gallons. “For me on an everyday basis, it doesn’t affect me much, but I know it’s people out there that really need it,” Wave told NBC affiliate WFLA.
The 22-year-old rapper, born Rodarius Green, is celebrating the success of his latest album SoulFly. Currently, he is on tour across the country with upcoming shows in Southaven, MS, North Charleston SC, and Richmond VA.
