During her recent interview with Vogue, Selena Gomez opened up about the possibility of stepping away from music for good.

Now before SelGo fans revolt in response, she did only hit us with a maybe, so nothing is set in stone. Yet she did admit, "It's hard to keep doing music when people don't necessarily take you seriously.” Whether it be her celebrity image and what people think they know about her life from reading about it online or still being seen “as this Disney girl.” Selena confessed, “I've had moments where I've been like, 'What's the point? Why do I keep doing this?’”

Throughout her music career, Selena has released three studio albums and four EPs, which is kind of surprising since it feels like she’s been treating us with bops for a lot longer, but we googled it, so you know it’s true. Currently Gomez is gearing up for the March 12 drop of Revelación, her seven song Spanish-language EP, which Selena told the outlet is “really an homage to my heritage.”

However what has led her to her feelings and where she stands on her impending future music career stems from her most recent album, 2020’s Rare, which she believes showcases some of her best work.

Gomez noted that she felt “Lose You to Love Me” was the best song she’d ever released, “and for some people it still wasn't enough," she continued, referencing her 2020 hit. With that said, Selena didn’t blanket that statement to everyone, "I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I'm so thankful, for that I keep going, but I think the next time I do an album it’ll be different. I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire music.”

Knowing her fans are ride or die, and treat her word as gospel, Selena stressed, “I need to be careful,” clarifying that the departure from music would be to spend more time and to “give myself a real shot at acting.”

Which is actually exactly what she’s currently doing, as she’s been shooting the first season of the Hulu comedy series, "Only Murders in the Building," alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Also speaking to Vogue about the project Martin praised Selena's performance in the comedy. "You get a list of names, you know, you're thinking, sure, they'd be good, they'd be good, and then they say, 'What about Selena Gomez?' and it's just -- yes, of course," Martin recalled. "There was no question except 'Can we get her?' We knew she would enhance the show in so many ways, the number one being talent.”

"Her performance is rich and adult," he continued. "She's learned to underplay when necessary. Marty and I are pretty manic, and she's this solid, solid rock foundation. She's nicely, intensely low-key... She's just working. And Marty and I joke around constantly, and we weren't sure if she'd be game for it. But now we think of ourselves as the Three Musketeers.” And we believe it, swipe the post below to see what we mean.

Ultimately, Selena said she hasn't even "touched the surface" of what she wants to do. Unfortunately for fans of her music, she means in acting. "The parts that I want are the ones I need help with," she explained. "I can't wait for the moment when a director can see that I'm capable of doing something that no one's ever seen.” Guess “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” and in Selena’s case it’s to put down the mic.
