Taylor Swift fans are blowing up social media with speculation and their latest theories surrounding Taylor’s music. In an effort to crack the code on the Pop star’s next album re-release, fans are leaving no stone unturned as they work to piece together clues and make sense of hints dropped by Taylor.
Swift previously shared plans to re-record her first six albums (Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and reputation) in an effort to regain artistic control of her music. The first re-record, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) was released in April and included 27 tracks, with six of them being brand-new songs she released from her song vault.
The re-release of the 2008 album was highly praised by Swifies and upped their excitement for the next re-release, which many believe will be 1989. Here’s why…
Taylor first started sending fans into a spiral with an interview she did with late-night host, Stephen Colbert in early April. Fans were clearly hanging onto every word Taylor and Stephen said as they posted their theories on social media all lining up with 1989 being the next release. Everything from complex clues including Stephen’s height and age, to more obvious ones like Taylor plainly saying to Stephen, "I think you should take that feeling that you're feeling, and just shake it off” were explored and we must admit, their investigation skills are pretty elite.
Words haven’t been the only thing fans have been observing. Swifties’ speculations of 1989 being the next release only heightened when Taylor showed up at the 2021 Brit Awards on May 23 wearing an outfit that was giving total 1989 vibes. Fans believed the two-piece glitter top and matching skirt were a definite sign.
Prior to the re-release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Taylor granted Match.com permission to use her song “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” for an advertisement. Knowing that, you can imagine fans’ excitement when they heard a re-recorded version of “Wildest Dreams,” from her 1989 album featured in the movie, Spirit Untamed, which released June 4. Sounds like another clue to us!
Additionally, Taylor has seemingly been dropping hints with her merchandise. A recent at the merch supporting her latest album, evermore, has fans almost certain there’s more to it. What do you think, see the resemblance?
Most recently, fans have been filling Twitter feeds and spamming the ‘gram with speculation regarding an HTML code one Swifty found via Taylor’s website (talk about dedication) and posted to TikTok.
Fans also went into a tizzy when a supposedly “leaked tracklist,” for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) surfaced on social media. The list included songs from 1989 as well as a few from Taylor’s Song Vault. Nothing has been confirmed by Taylor's team, but the account where the tweet originated has been suspended.
All of this to say, there is still some uncertainty, but one thing we do know for sure is Taylor's fans are clearly some of the best in the business!
