Colombian journalist Luis Carlos Velez tweeted Saturday afternoon, citing Colombia’s Attorney General’s office, saying “authorities found: marijuana, antidepressants, opioids, heroine [sic]. At least 10 different substances found,” following his initial report of a possible overdose. “Colombian authorities press release confirming 10 substances found #TaylorHawkins – Official release does not say overdose. Investigation continues,” he added.
Additional reports have stated that Hawkins died of a cardiovascular collapse, according to The Daily Mail‘s Sunday report, citing Colombian magazine Semana, with a police officer adding a "cocaine looking powder" was found inside Hawkins’ hotel room. Colombian newspaper El Tiempo also reports authorities may have found “hallucinogenic drugs” inside the room as well.
According to reports, forensic experts found during an examination that Hawkins’ heart weighed "at least 600 grams," which is double the size of 300 to 350 grams of an average adult male his age. Furthermore, Colombia's Attorney General's office has released the following statement regarding Hawkins' death:
"After concluding an initial forensic examination of the body the AGO would like to communicate the following:
1) Preliminary results of the urine toxicology test indicate the presence of 10 different substances: THX (Marihuana), tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids among others.
2) The National Institute of Forensic Medicine continues to conduct the necessary medical studies to ascertain the cause of death.
3) The AGO will continue to investigate and will duly inform the findings of forensic examinations in due time."
