Tom Parker, soulful singer of the British/Irish boy band The Wanted, announced being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor with no known cure.
Parker shared the devastating news with fans over an Instagram post, Monday. An image shows he and wife Kelsey Hardwick embracing their 1-year-old daughter, Aurelia. “We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way,” the singer decried in his caption.
“We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options. It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this.”
The couple told OK! Magazine doctors diagnosed Tom with stage 4 glioblastoma, an inoperable brain tumor with no cure. Parker told the publication his diagnosis is difficult to accept. "They pulled the curtain around my bed and said, 'It's a brain tumour.' All I could think was, 'F****** hell!' I was in shock. It's stage four glioblastoma and they've said it's terminal. It was a lot to deal with by myself. I still haven't processed it."
Officials from The National Brain Tumor Society say more than 13,000 Americans are expected to receive a GBM diagnosis this year. Most people afflicted are a mean age of 64-years-old.
Even though The Wanted split up in 2014 to pursue solo projects, band members reached on social media to express love and support for Tom. Max George posted a collage of moments with the band, with an emotional message. “Speaking as a brother, a friend and a band mate.. I know that you will conquer this as you have every other challenge you have ever faced,” he captioned.
