During the interview, Rhett shared a “kind of terrifying experience” he had with Toby Keith while opening for Keith’s 'Red Solo Cup' Hitmaker's Headlining Live in Overdrive Tour in 2012.

“It was my very first tour I’d ever been on… I was so sick,” Rhett told Rob + Holly. “The doctor told me I had tonsillitis caused from like, mono… on this last show of the run my tonsils were so big in my mouth, they were touching each other in the back of my throat.”

Surely Toby would understand and allow Rhett to take the night off for some much needed some R&R, right? Wrong.

“I was like, ‘Toby, I’m not going to be able to play tonight, man. I’m too sick, I can’t sing’” Rhett recalled. “In a round about way of using some other language, Toby said, ‘Well, it’s alright man, I had my gallbladder taken out early today so if you want to be a pansy about it, be my guest.’”

Well, alrighty then. Guess the show must go on.

“Needless to say I went out there and played the show and threw my guts up the whole night.”
