We got two new songs from Shawn Mendes this week, and that means we've gotten to see the 19-year-old super star out promoting those tracks. What have we learned from Shawn Mendes' media tour?
Shawn's new song "In My Blood" is incredbily personal for him.
The 19-year-old star said it's the first time he really shared such a personal side of himself in a song.
"The concept of this song is about how it feels [when> you're about to give up, and then you don't," he told Billboard. "It's about something that I think everybody goes through and it's something that I think people don't talk about often, especially in music."
The just released song, "Lost in Japan," was inspired by Justin Timberlake songs and a strange night of sleep.
"I had this dream that I was lost in this country and I woke up the next day and we had this cool piano part and the song was birthed," Mendes told Billboard.com.
The new album will have a varied sound to it.
Shawn revealed that he was inspired by Kings of Leon, Kanye West, Ed Sheeran and John Mayer as he worked on the upcoming album. "I think is a perfect explanation as to why the music is so all over the place," he shares, "is cause that's how I was listening to it at the time," he tells Billboard.
Mendes is expected to release the album sometime this year.
